Continued Growth After the War

After the Second World War, the Peace River country became less agrarian as towns and urban centres grew. Economic developments in the Peace River country brought change to communities like Beaverlodge, Fairview, Falher, Brimshaw, and Wembley as these communities doubled in size.

Peace River lost it position of being the largest community in the Peace country as its population in 1946 was 997 people, while Grande Prairie had a population of 2,267.

Adding to the growth was an influx of veterans returning from the war to start farms in the Peace country. Others came to the Peace River country as the oil, gas, electric power, and forestry industry expanded. The improvements in communications, transportation, and the possibility of attaining an advanced education brought many more.
