CITADEL THEATRE

99 Street, 101A Avenue, Edmonton
Designed By: Barton Myers and R.L. Wilkin
Built in 1976

The Citadel Theatre officially opened on November 12, 1976. It was designed by Barton Myers of Toronto and R.L. Wilkin of Edmonton. The Citadel’s original home in Edmonton was the old Salvation Army Citadel on 102 Street. The building is an interesting combination of red brick from Medicine Hat and structural steel. The theatre leases the land from the city for a dollar a year with the proviso that a public walkway be maintained within the structure. The walkway is the large central corridor which provides access to the Rice Theatre and Zeidler Hall
