West Central Alberta Real Estate Board

The West Central Real Estate Board is located in Hinton, Alberta, nearly 300 kilometres west of Edmonton. WCAREB covers a large region, from the Rockies, East in the Central Alberta, including Hinton, Edson, Jasper, Grande Cache, Whitecourt, Swan Hills, Fox Creek, Mayerthorpe, Barrhead, Slave Lake, Athabasca, Banff and Canmore. West Central Alberta is rich in resources and has vibrant forestry, mining, oil and gas, and tourism industries. As of 2008, WCAREB represented 149 members in the area.

According to the West Central Alberta Real Estate Board, their mission is to provide members with “quality structure and services to realize their highest potential, maximize their Professional Standards, and provide outstanding services.”

WCAREB was founded in 1978 as the Hinton-Edson Real Estate Board, representing 49 members in Hinton and Edson. Its first executive directors were Thelma Steele, president; Evelyn Holden, vice president; and Emery Laboucane, secretary treasurer.

Over the years, some of the WCAREB directors have also served as representatives on the provincial and national associations. Notably, Bev Andre, president of the Hinton-Edson Real Estate Board from 1983 to 1984, has also been president of the Alberta Real Estate Association and Chair of the Real Estate Council of Alberta.

On August 1, 1993, the Hinton-Edson Real Estate Board became the West Central Alberta Real Estate Board to recognize the increasing geographical representation of the board’s 63 members.

The West Central Alberta Real Estate Board celebrated its 30 th Anniversary from September 5 th to 7 th, 2008 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, in Jasper, Alberta. Over its 30 years, WCAREB has been served by 15 presidents and 9 executive officers.
