  • 56TH STREET
    Describes the history of the development of Red Deer’s 56th Street, a historical residential neighbourhood.
  • WILLIAM J. BOTTERILL
    One of the most highly respected long-time residents of Red Deer, a man who was so involved in the community that many referred to him as “Mr. Red Deer”, was W.J. (Bill) Botterill.
  • RED DEER'S BID TO BECOME ALBERTA'S CAPITAL
    While the “autonomy” bills were being passed to give provincehood to Alberta, Red Deer, in the midst of a great development boom, decided that it should be the capital of the new province.
  • STAN CARSCALLEN
    Probably the strongest boom that Red Deer ever enjoyed occurred in the years prior to the First World War. One of the major figures in that boom was Stan Carscallen.
  • FAIRVIEW
    Fairview Park was the name of the new subdivision built by Fred Ray in the early 1900s, which was to become one of Red Deer’s historic neighborhoods.
  • THE FLOOD OF 1915
    The worst flooding in Red Deer’s history took place in June of 1915, damaging the Great West Lumber Mill, flats in North Red Deer and the city’s power plant.
  • THE SASKATCHEWAN LAND AND HOMESTEAD COMPANY
    A Methodist Church venture, the Saskatchewan Land and Homestead Company, at one time owned one hundred and eighty square miles of land around what is now the City of Red Deer and had a profound impact on the development of Central Alberta.
  • JAMES GEISSINGER
    One of the most successful pioneer entrepreneurs of Red Deer, but a man who unfortunately is no longer well remembered is James I. Geissinger.
  • MICHENER HILL
    Michener Hill area is one of the oldest residential neighbourhoods in Red Deer, but one which has had a number of names.
  • EDWARD MICHENER
    Although Edward Michener was at one time Red Deer's leading real estate developer, partner in several major businesses, mayor of the Town, Red Deer's M.L.A., leader of the Opposition in the Alberta Legislature, and later, the only person from this City to be named to the Canadian Senate, he is generally now remembered as former Governor General Roland Michener's father.
