Doussal

Category : Post Office

The post office operated here from November 1929 to December 1949. The Edmonton, Dunvegan and British Columbia Railway siding was called Kathleen, but the post office was called Doussal to avoid confusion with Kathyrn, north of Calgary. Because of the francophone influence in the area, the name chosen was taken from Father Louis Le Doussal. He was a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate who was born in France in 1835. He was ordained in 1860, and first served in Fort Providence in 1876. His final years were spent in Fort Chipewyan, from 1882 to the year of his death, 1923.

Approximately 10 km south south-east of McLennan.
