This name is descriptive, as they lie in a north-west south-east direction. The local name for this feature is McKinzie or MacKenzie Lakes, apparently after Alexander McKinzie, a Hudson's Bay Company factor in charge of Fort Vermilion from 1871 to 1876.

Approximately 74 km south-west of High Level.
