The precise origin of the name is probably descriptive. The name was recorded by A.W. Ponton, DLS, in 1910 and is likely the feature referred to by George Simpson in 1820 as Bark Mountain. Its elevation is 823 metres.

Approximately 138 km north-west of Fort McMurray.
