Kuusamo

Kuusamo is a Finnish word meaning "green trees" or "spruce trees" . This area was settled originally by Finns. The first school in the area was called the Kuusamo School (S.D. #755, est. 1902) and was near the present site of the United Grain Growers elevator, in 35-38-2-W5M. The Kuusamo School District still exists. The Kuusamo cemetery is close by.

Approximately 6 km south-west of Sylvan Lake.
