The city of Edmonton usually attempts to retain, whenever possible, any names of historical significance. There are two possibilities for the origin of the name. One is that it is taken after the one of the Scottish manors of Sir William Wallace, and another is that it is taken after a favourite character in a novel by Sir Walter Scott. The name is derived from Alder Lea, or "Alder Meadow." |
