Columbia Icefield

Category : Icefield

The Columbia Icefield is the centre of the greatest accumulation of ice in the Rocky Mountains. With its outlet glaciers the Columbia Icefield covers an area of nearly 337 km2 of which 130 km2 are more than 2591 m above sea level in the area of accumulation, usually called the "névé." The Columbia Icefield is the source of three great rivers — the Athabasca (1231 m), the Saskatchewan (1939 m), and the Columbia (1947 m), flowing respectively to the Arctic Ocean, Hudson Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
