Amery, Mount

This mountain, 3329 m in altitude, was named after Leopold Charles Maurice Stennett Amery (1873-1955), who climbed the peak in 1929. Amery was an extensive traveller and mountaineer who was also a member of the House of Lords in Britain. He was a persistent advocate of Imperial preference and tariff reform and did much to promote the constitutional advance of colonial territories. He is remembered best for his part in bringing down the Chamberlain Government in 1940. |
