Pakawtew Ministik
Category : Island | |
A Cree Indian name meaning Ground-Fire Island or Burnt-Under-Island. This island received its name as the result of a fire that destroyed its vegetation in the early 1950s. The fire is said to have continued to burn under the ground throughout the winter, which would indicate that the island has a peat soil. |
