McDermott Island

Andrew Miles McDermot (not McDermott) began with the Hudson's Bay Company in 1885 as clerk at the Assiniboine Lake post in the English River District. From 1920 to 1928, he was post manager at Fort McMurray. He had worked with the Company for 40 years at the time this feature was named in 1925.

Island in Athabasca River approximately 71 km north north-west of Fort McMurray.
