In
1948, members of the Alberta chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters
of the Empire (I.O.D.E.), the Alberta provincial
government, a renowned Ottawa social worker, an Ottawa writer, his publisher
in Toronto, and stern legal counsel found themselves playing a part in an
odd mix of characters engaged in an Edmonton libel suit.
It is fairly certain that the individuals who were part
of this trial could not have predicted they would end up there, but each
contributed to the situation that brought them to this courtroom and
eventually, the justice that ensued.
