Ellis Bird Farm

The Ellis Bird Farm (EBF) is located 8 km east and 8 km south of Lacombe and was established to carry on the work of pioneer conservationists, Charles and Winnifred Ellis of Lacombe. EBF is a non-profit company and is managed by a volunteer board of directors. While most of the farm remains a working farm, the homestead site has been established as a demonstration backyard wildlife habitat area.

The Ellis Bird Farm is dedicated to the conservation of Mountain Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, and other indigenous cavity-nesting birds, and the site has the “World’s Largest” collection of functional bluebird nestboxes. Visitors can stroll through beautiful butterfly, water, wildflower, and hummingbird gardens. The trails are self–guided and are wheelchair accessible. Amenities include a Tea–House, a visitors centre, and a gift shop.

The Ellis Bird Farm offers numerous programs, including tours, on-site school programs, summer day camps, and Bird Banding Tours. During the off-season, EBF offers educational programs on cavity–nesting birds, winter bird feeding, and backyard habitats. Contact the Ellis Bird Farm for more information.
