Big Valley Historical Society

The Big Valley Historical Society is located at the end of Main Street in Big Valley. The collection at the museum includes artefacts representing local history such as household and agricultural artefacts. There is a photographic display and other displays relating to industries prominent in the area in the past, such as mining, farming, ranching, and petroleum. There are two railway baggage cars and the original Anglican Church. The museum is housed within a restored 1912 Canadian Northern Railway depot and there are several other historical buildings for visitors to tour. The museum also displays a large collection of salt and pepper shakers. As well as local artefacts, the Big Valley Museum displays exhibits from the Canadian Northern Railway Society relating to Alberta’s railroad heritage. The museum participates in Homecoming at the end of July and is busy restoring old farm machinery.
