Haying

If you have gone anywhere in Alberta, chances are you have seen hundreds of hay bails in fields. Some are big and round, and some are small and square! Haymaking has always been an important summer activity on Alberta farms. Farmers needed hay as winter feed for farm horses, cattle and sheep.

Haymaking is a basic routine of cutting, gathering, preserving, and storing grasses and plants. Hay is best made during late June, July and August. In the past making hay required a lot of time and people. Today there are machines that help farmers make hay faster and easier.
