The name for the post office, which operated here from January 1906 through May 1927, was taken after a town in North Dakota, the former home of the first postmaster, J.C. Morrison. There is also a Bathgate in West Lothian (now Lothian), Scotland.

Approximately 18 km east of Tofield.
