This locality was named for Ernest Goddard who emigrated to Canada from England. As early settlers to the community, Goddard and his family homesteaded and operated a general store and the post office. Illl health and an extended economic recession prompted Goddard to move to British Columbia, and eventually back to England.

Approximately 102 km south-east of Lethbridge.
