Caldbeck

Category : Locality

A post office was established here 1 June 1913 and was named after the town of Caldbeck in Cumberland (now Cumbria), England. It is suggested that it is the home of John Peel of hunting song fame. The song was written circa 1820 by one of Peel's friends, as they sat chatting before the fire at Caldbeck one winter evening. The name is first reported in 1060 as Caldebek (Ekwall) and means "cold brook."

Approximately 48 km north-west of Calgary.
