The rural municipality of the County of Vulcan was established in 1951. It is comprised of the old MDs of Vulcan, Blackie, Argyle, Barons, and parts of Special Area 4. When it was created, the school divisions of Foothills, Macleod, Bow Valley, and Taber fell within its jurisdiction.
