Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

Formerly named “Kananaskis Provincial Park,” Peter Lougheed Provincial Park was created in 1985 and was named for the outgoing premier. Peter Lougheed (1928–) became an MLA in 1968 and was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta. In 1971 he became premier after having led a stunning victory over the Social Credit Party that had been in continuous power since 1935. Peter Lougheed retired as premier in 1985. |
